Maple gives the two-piece case a brighter, lighter read — pale tight grain that pushes engraving into strong dark contrast and pairs well with a modern desk. Twin routed grooves hold each barrel separately so nothing knocks in transit, and the flat-opening hinge presents both pieces at once. It is the same format as the rosewood case in a different register.
